Hi Mom, I read an interesting book Slow Death by Rubber Ducky, the sub title was something about the toxicity of everyday things. Elliott and I have made quite a few changes since Feb. 2007, we got rid of our nonstick pans, we have stopped using the microwave (that is part diet driven, part scary melting plastics driven), I use natural deodorant, soap and shampoo. And the processed foods thing is very interesting. GMO's, genetically modified organisms are pretty scary and I think they are most common in wheat, corn and soy which make up many of those strange ingredients in processed foods. Researchers aren't sure if GMO's are safe. That is what I learned most from the book is that many things are introduced and allowed to be in common products and food before they are proved safe, and then after we are exposed to them then its up to someone to prove they aren't safe, I think they should have to be proved safe first and then allowed to be sold. So that puts the onerous on all of us to be informed and vote with our dollars. Great post, I hope everyone takes some time to learn about some of these potential toxins and how to get them out of their homes.

And P.S. I'm really glad you let the blog world know that you made it through the procedure.

Aye Aye Mom. Thanks for sharing the story. I am glad that thing is gone, no more visits needed to the cancer center - on to new and other exciting adventures. I hope the only other port you ever have to talk about is located in Mexico or some other exotic destination! Love you.

Rosalynn,
How wonderful to hear from you! What a coincidence that I was just with Sue and Donna last night. Of course, Laura is one of my dearest friends. It was her gift of little girl barrettes and Bed Head Manipulator along with the comment, "It's time" that convinced me to ditch my hats and show off my new white, baby fine hair that grew in after chemo. My early entries are what I would refer to as gut-wrenching, yet a catharsis for me. If you ever need anything that you'd prefer not to blog, any one of the gals can tell you how to reach me. I'm sure your journey will end well, too...and for us literacy folks, I highly encourage journaling. Thanks for writing.

Hello Dottie,

My name is Rosalynn Waldron. I took a Children's Lit. class from you circa 1998 and instantaneously fell in love with your passion for literature. Since that time I have come to know Sue Hendricks, Donna McKay and, most recently Laura Paske both professionally and personally. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer (started chemo on Wednesday) and when Laura found out she gave me your blog address.

I just read your most recent entry and am hoping for the day I can write about my port being removed. I also read your first entry and with tears in my eyes thank you for making a path for me. I'm going to start reading from the beginning of your journey and move forward........here we go.

Finally got to blogging myself which is usually when I check your blog. Elliott told me you had written. I think removing the port would be wonderful! I remember hearing from Pete that one of his kids who had been really sick saw the port removal as a rite of passage to not being sick anymore. I know you don't like surgery and pills and stuff, although I am certain this is the last time you will have to do it! Love you!
